I have been reading a book on Catalonia by George Orwell (birthday present from my awesome wife), and though he is far a a theological scholar, he made a statement that has some implications we should think about when looking at the Word of God:
“If only we looked at things simply and directly, having only in mind our intention of finding out what they really are, not the prestige of our great intellectual act of looking at them“
Too many times we miss beautiful truth from God’s Word when digging for the deeper things of God simply because our pride blinds us.
Studying the Word should be a humbling experience because we are glimpsing the most wonderful Being in the universe, not an opportunity to prove how erudite and arcane we can be.
God give us a deep sense of humility and awe when we look at our God and His Word!
