Austin Gardner, Senior Pastor of Vision Baptist Church
Scott and Melissa Newton are two of the finest people that I know. I have had the privilege of being their pastor now for a little over 3 years!
Scott has experienced ministry here and on the mission field. As an MK he grew up in Portugal. There Scott gained valuable experience
dealing with the cruel realities of learning and speaking a foreign language, dealing with culture shock, living in a foreign country, doing cross cultural evangelism, preaching, eating strange foods, etc.
Scott is a man of character. He is hard working, diligent, faithful, and hungry to be used of God. Scott not only has these characteristics but we have seen him work and grow and carry real responsibilities in the ministry here in his church.
He is prepared far beyond the average missionary to do the work that God has called him to do. Scott is a leader among his peers, and I believe will be greatly used of God in Spain.
I hope that you will prayerfully consider having Scott in your church and supporting this very needy ministry. Spain, and especially the area of Catalonia, is a key country and in great need of the gospel if we want to impact the world and glorify the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I know that Scott and Melissa will be a blessing to you and your church when he presents the work and even more so as we see him get to the mission field and begin the work that God has called him to do. Thank you for whatever help you can give Scott as he prepares to go to Spain as a church planting missionary.
I am honored to be their pastor and to serve God with them. If you
have any further questions about them, their character, their
dedication, their preparation, or service please feel free to give me a
call.
Yours to evangelize the world in our generation,
W. Austin Gardner
Matthew 6:33
Allen Newton, Missionary to Portugal
I would like to take this opportunity to encourage prayerful consideration of supporting Scott and Melissa as they go to Spain.
Scott grew up with us on the mission field in Portugal and has experienced first-hand the frustrations and joys of church planting in this part of the world. We always involved Scott and our other two children as much as possible in the ministry as children. As an older teen, Scott was very active in our ministry in the city of Albufeira in southern Portugal. He was instrumental in starting a vibrant teen program in the fledgling church there. He was privileged to see the transition from a mission work to an indigenous church. Later, after 3 years of Bible college, he and Melissa spent a year with us in a brand new pioneer work in Castelo Branco, getting in at the very beginning. During that time they studied in our Bible institute, helped refurbish the store front we use for services, helped with construction of our new camp property, helped with the music of the church, taught Sunday School, preached (Scott, of course) and were very active in encouraging believers and in soul-winning efforts.
Since they have been gone from here they have been very involved in their sending church and have continued their training there. They have grown greatly in their spiritual maturity and have a love for God and His work that I have rarely seen. They are both extremely hard workers and knowledgeable in the scriptures.
Scott’s mother and I are very proud of Scott as our son, but also as a man of God. We see the same dedication in Melissa, and we want everyone to know that we believe in them. Any church who partners with them to see Spain evangelized will be getting the highest quality missionaries possible, burdened and prepared to make a real difference for the glory of Jesus Christ.
